At Brandon Park we’re often brought wildlife by members of the public – birds and possums are frequently seen around the clinic being fostered by our volunteer vets and vet nurses. Most of our cases are successes and are passed on to wildlife carers after a day or two of TLC in the clinic.

However, recently one of our cases was so successful a carer wasn’t even needed! Nurse Mel was entrusted with the care of a young orphaned magpie, who made such a ruckus that a local pair of adults popped over to find out what was going on. Mel had the brilliant idea of seeing if our feathered friends would adopt the little orphan, and to our surprise it was a rousing success! The adult magpies brought food for our baby bird, and eventually took the little one with them to their nest nearby.

Check out the video below of one of the adults bringing food to the baby before they headed off!
