IS YOU PET’S TICK PREVENTION UP TO DATE?
Ticks are more active in the warmer months so it is best to check that you pet’s parasite control protects them from these potentially harmful parasites.
There are three types of ticks in Victoria with Bush ticks and Brown dog ticks being the most common. Paralysis ticks are unfortunately also present along the east coast down to Gippsland with increasing evidence of their presence on Mornington Peninsula and surrounding areas.

What you can do?
- Use an effective monthly Parasite control that prevents against parylis ticks
- Check you dog thoroughly after walking in bush land in particular (What do ticks look like and how to spot them)
- Call you vet if you happen to find a tick

Humans can also be bitten by ticks, and that tick bites can cause a human mammalian meat allergy, also known as alpha-gal syndrome (AGS). This occurs because ticks inject the sugar molecule galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal) into a person’s bloodstream, which is found in all mammals except humans and higher primates.
