Last month I had the opportunity to visit the local Maria Montesorri Preschool with Marni and Bear our two fur kids (Bear is the black blob in the photo). The visit was to talk to the children about what I do as a Veterinarian and what we need to do to look after our pets. Mostly it was a big show-and-tell which the children loved.
A few kids got to dress up in surgical gear and assist me in examining our two patients. The favourite was definitely the stethoscope which everyone wanted a turn at listening to Marni’s heart beat. Marni was a perfect patient even allowing one of our assistants to bandage her leg. I guess if it involves a cuddle and a treat she is more than willing.
It was also an opportunity to talk to the kids about staying safe around dogs, and what they should do when they meet a dog. They practiced asking permission to pat my dog, and then introduce themselves to the dogs in a non threatening manner.
The stars of the day were definitely Marni and Bear who had no complaints about all the extra attention.
