Synovan is a concentrated anti-inflammatory and stimulant of cartilage synthesis, repair and protection for treating joint disease in dogs. It is a class of disease modifying agents which help reduce pain and slows down degenerative joint disease. It is best used in the early stages of Osteoarthritis and Degenerative joint disease to slow down the progression of joint damage and inflammation. It contains sodium pentosan polysulfate and NAG (Acetyl Glucosamine) a newly approved and more advanced form of glucosamine.
Synovan helps by
- Improving lubrication of the joint by increasing the viscosity of joint fluid, which reduced joint degeneration.
- Reducing inflammation by limiting damaging inflammatory enzymes
- Reduces pain associated with inflamed damaged joints
We have had decades of success using Pentosan to manage pets with general arthritis but also to treat pets with specific degenerative joint conditions such as:
- Hip and Elbow Dysplasia
- Stifle and Cruciate Disease
- Luxating patella Disease
- Shoulder and Hock OCD
A synovan injection course – starts with 4 weekly injections, followed by a 1 month booster. Reassessments will be made at each visit.
Our current recommendations for maintenance treatment for osteoarthritis involves 4 injections yearly – every 3 months. But can be used more often in more severe cases.
As a natural product side effects are rare and can include an injection site reaction. The only precaution would be in those pets who may have underlying kidney disease, where Pentosan is excreted through the kidneys.
